ABSTRACT
A philosophical way of life is
significant for a happy and healthy life. Education and development are two
sides of the same coin. School is a miniature of society. Social well-being is
the main aim of education. Unity in diversity is the greatness of India. We
have all types of natural resources for inclusive development. The etymological
meaning of management is ‘controlling something or someone’. North-East India
has a rich cultural heritage. There are hundreds of ethnic groups live together
peacefully. The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, is taking care
of education in this region. The NEHU campus is beautiful and has an area of
1200+ acres of land. The researchers attempted to develop the 8 Rs Model of
Management for Social Well-being by using a philosophical perspective.

Introduction
Education is a key to
development. Education and development are two sides of the same coin. Many
changes are taking place in the field of education. A student can learn at any
place and at any time. The main aim of education is the self-reliance of an individual.
A philosophical way of life is significant for a happy and healthy life.
Education and development are two sides of the same coin. There are three types
of the educational system: Formal Education, Non-formal Education, and Informal
Education. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a pivotal role.
The development of any nation depends mainly on the standards of its
educational system. School is a
miniature of society. Social well-being is the main aim of education. Unity in
diversity is the greatness of India. We have all types of natural resources for
inclusive development. The etymological meaning of management is ‘controlling
something or someone’. North-East India has a rich cultural heritage. There are
hundreds of ethnic groups live together peacefully. The North-Eastern Hill
University (NEHU), Shillong, is taking care of education in this region. The
NEHU was established in 1973. The NEHU campus is beautiful and has an area of
1200+ acres of land. It has two campuses along with the main campus in
Shillong. For the maximum utilization of its natural and human resources, there
is a need for an effective model of management.
Objectives of the Study
1.
To develop a new management
model for social well-being.
2.
To understand the
philosophical perspectives of institutional development.
Need of the Study
We
have all types of natural and human resources. Many organisations are not in a
position to utilise their natural and human resources. The main aim of
education is the self-reliance of an individual. Management plays a pivotal
role in utilization of natural and human resources for the maximum benefits of society/social
well-being. There is a need for an
effective management model for social well-being. This model was prepared
purely from a philosophical perspective.

Recording: Record maintenance of movable
and non-movable assets.

i.
Naming
of Buildings and Roads of NEHU Campus.
ii.
Department-wise
stock register by naming all the assets.
iii.
Evaluation
of the present conditions of the buildings.
2.
Reporting: Creation of information
reporting charts of movable and non-movable
charts.
Activities:
i.
Displaying
the reporting chart regarding the condition of the building/vehicle, date of expiration,
date of last repair, date of subsequent filling, and date of next checkup.
ii.
Reporting
needful things to the administration well in advance.
iii.
Reporting
the safety and securing of the campus and boundary wall.
3.
Repairing: The stakeholders are not happy
with the contractors, theirs repairing
methods and the quality of the provisions.
Activities:
i.
Identification
of skilled casual workers for better utilisation of their services.
ii.
Prevention
is better than cure. Many things could be done easily and quickly by
identifying the problems at the early stage and beginning hours.
iii.
Search
for a suitable method to inspect the work done by the contractors.
4.
Reusing: The university can reuse many
things which have yet to be reused/unused to
date.
Activities:
i.
Identification
of a list of things to reuse.
ii.
Reuse
of rainwater/rainwater harvesting.
iii.
Reuse
unused and damaged chairs, desks, computers, furniture and iron materials.
5.
Recycling: We need to improve recycling.
Much scope for recycling unused and
unwanted things in the university.
Activities:
i.
Identification
of unused and unwanted things for recycling.
ii.
Beautification
of campus by using recycling methods.
iii.
Identify
skilled casual workers and other staff for recycling.
6.
Revitalizing: We can give new life to many
movable and non-movable things in the
university.
Activities:
i.
New
life to old vehicles.
ii.
New
life to a university press, community hall and other buildings.
iii.
Uplifting
the standards of roads and buildings.
7.
Regulating: Provide notice boards and
caution boards by displaying information about
things to do and not to do.
Activities:
i.
A
caution board for saving electricity, water and paper in each room.
ii.
Displaying
of punishable offence to avoid firing, ragging and drug usage.
iii.
Taking
necessary steps to follow NEHU Regulations strictly for the benefit of all
stakeholders.
8.
Revenue-Generating: There is much scope for revenue
generation by utilising the
building and lands of NEHU.
Activities:
i.
A
road map for effectively utilizing Multi-use Convention Hall, Convocation Hall,
New Guest House and Old Guest House (Including Guwahati NEHU Guest House).
ii.
Establishment
of Solar Power Plant. By generating power, we can save energy and money.
iii.
Better
utilization of unused lands and buildings to generate money.
iv.
Establishment
of Working Women Hostel with the help of Multinational Companies under CSR to
generate money.
v.
Better
utilization of teaching and non-teaching staff quarters to generate money.
Other Activities:
1)
Clean
and Green programmes for the university.
2)
Better
utilization of NSS Volunteers.
3) 10
Hours of work per student, scholars, teaching and non-teaching staff for NEHU
clean and green programme in a year.
4)
Beautification
of Campus by using CSR funds of Multi-National Companies.
5)
Reunification
of Old Students Association/Alumni Association for beautification and safety,
and security of NEHU.
6)
Construction
of pending compound walls of NEHU by using Donations.
7)
Donate
One Day’s salary for NEHU (All the workers of NEHU).
8)
Traffic
lights and road safety measures on all roads on the campus.
9)
Steps
for construction of hostels by utilising Donar’s funds.
10)
Development
of Gardens on the campus.
11)
Allotment
of unused lands to schools of NEHU for beautification and development of
gardens.
12)
Effectively
utilise rainwater harvesting, electricity, and movable and non-movable assets.
13)
Preparation
of a list of residents of teaching and non-teaching quarters.
14)
A
road map for quality maintenance, safety, security, greenery and revenue
generation.
15)
Keeping the university ready to celebrate Golden Jubilee
Celebration.
16)
Effective utilization of new things and recycled things.
17)
Maximum utilization for maximum benefits of movable and
non-movable things.
18)
Establishing a cordial relationship with other departments of
NEHU.
19)
Motivating each department to organise at least one or two
programmes (Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, symposiums and other educational
activities) to use Guest Houses and Conference Halls to generate money.
20)
Establishment of University Swimming Pools and Strengthening
of University Canteens & Stores.
21) Identification of
long-term goals and short-term goals.
22) Strengthening of feedback
mechanism @ stakeholders’ satisfaction.
Conclusion
The 8 Rs model of management (Recording, Reporting, Repairing, Reusing, Recycling, Revitalizing, Regulating, and Revenue-Generating) is an innovative model for social well-being. Philosophy means love of wisdom. Education and development are two sides of the same coin. Using this management model, we can utilise natural and human resources for social well-being. This model is useful for any type of educational institutions. This is a new and innovative model of management for social well-being.
